Sorry?

Sorry. A strange word, like "love", that has lost its meaning. Used so very often without any feeling, without any context. Used so very often to mend things that were not even broken, or, were broken beyond repair. In either case, "sorry" isn't articulate enough.

I wonder when we as a society would realize that "sorry"s are not explanations. Neither are they licenses that let you take others for granted. And they definitely are not mechanisms of recovery.

Tere dar tak aakar yun hi kabhi
Sar jhukakar zara si jo muafi maang li
Toh yun magroor hokar itarake chal diye
Tujhse har ek sajde ki gawahii maang li

Itne paak hokar ke nikle hain
Ke zehan mein yeh khayal tak nahi
Sar-e-aam ab qatl karte firenge hum
Umr bhar ki aaj be-parwaahi maang li

Very well written.
But what else can someone do if they make a mistake?
I guess it depends on how lasting the damage is ...some things may become "unforgivable" but not all qualify for such severity.

@Adi: Totally agree. Sounds cliche, but to err is human, and to forgive is divine.

The point that I wanted to make here though was different. There are so many times when we make a mistake and want to get away with a "sorry"...when we use the word without meaning it completely, you know...if we are "sorry" about something, we should try our best to not repeat the mistake.

Also, we should not be saying sorry for things that are not exactly worth it, for instance, you bump into someone while entering the elevator, or ask someone a dumb question.. do you really need to say sorry for such things? The social protocol forces us to.
